And the winner is

And the winner is………..

Across February we held a competition asking young people to explore youth unemployment in their region and report back on what they found. The prize? A chance to represent Youth Employment UK in Poland at the European Congress of Local Governments.

We were looking for research into the work that takes place in their local community/town/ region that supports young people. An exploration of the challenges being faced in the region, what is working well and any ideas for future development.

We have been impressed with the amount of work and research undertaken by all entrants. It is clear that there are pockets of good work happening to support young people and that young people have some of the best ideas and input into the support.

The winner:

It was a closely fought contest and after much deliberation we managed to pick a winner:

Patrick Cantellow

Patrick’s entry stood out from others as it really showed his passion and enthusiasm for youth employment. As a Youth Employment UK Ambassador and through his work with Swale Young People Patrick continues to impress as a champion for social action and a role model for young people. We look forward to hearing from Patrick and showcasing his work in Poland.

We will be showing you more of the reports we received over the coming weeks.

European Congress of Local Governments

3rd  European Congress of Local Governments

27th– 28th March 2017 Krakow

Local Government and the Challenges of the 21st Century

Multilateral and direct cooperation between European regions and cities has been extremely intense in recent years. It affects not only politics and the economies of individual countries but also of the entire continent.

The European Congress of Local Governments is a meeting platform for local leaders and regional elites to exchange views with public administration, NGOs and businesses.

According to Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of Krakow – the third edition of the European Congress of Local Governments is a great opportunity to discuss revolutionary and evolutionary ideas, solutions and concepts – regarding the vision of a new order for the world. The world of which each of us is a citizen, and which consists of many larger and smaller communities. Communities as varied as the people who live in them.

The Congress will be an opportunity for Polish and European local governments to discuss ways of increasing efficiency in using EU structural funds, to share experiences and make new contacts. The programme will consist of  7 thematic tracks, with more than 60 events: thematic blocks, panel discussions, workshops, lectures, presentations and receptions.

The 2nd European Congress of Local Governments which was held on 5-6 April 2016 brought together over 1500 guests – representatives of local governments, public administrations, governments and parliaments, non-governmental organisations and business across Europe.

The Organiser of the Congress is the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies the host organisation of the Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdroj. The Partner of the Congress is the City of Krakow.
